Turning Compassion into Action in Furano

Last week, our sister organization FURAPERA Community Aid Network completed a powerful community effort in Furano, Hokkaido — bringing real, on-the-ground impact to families in need.

With the help of volunteers and local partners, more than 100 people were served hot meals and over 100 families received essential food supplies. The activities were carried out in partnership with Food Bank Furano, and included high school students and adults working side by side to support their neighbors.

The initiative was made possible through the combined experience of Giveinstead.sg and FURAPERA. Shoken, the founder of Giveinstead, is also leading FURAPERA, and used his knowledge from building the Giveinstead platform to help Food Bank Furano register with Give Asia, a leading Singapore-based crowdfunding platform. Together, they successfully raised over 600 thousand yen (more than 5000 Singapore dollars) to cover the food bank’s running costs for the coming year.

This funding will allow over 1000 people to receive warm meals and hundreds of families to continue receiving monthly support.

FURAPERA began as a translation support service for small businesses but has evolved into a full-scale community aid network focused on addressing food insecurity, education, and access to life experiences in rural Japan.

We are proud to support this meaningful work — and incredibly grateful to our Giveinstead community for making it possible.
