Established in 2023, Giveinstead.sg is a non-profit platform dedicated to facilitating charitable giving and donor-designed, customised project-based giving in Singapore. A ground-up initiative registered with giving.sg, our mission is to transform special occasions into opportunities for charitable giving. We provide a free service to help people create and run fundraisers for birthdays, weddings, Christmas and other celebratory events.
We provide a meaningful alternative for people to use those celebratory occasions as opportunities to give the gift of charity, do good, spread the love and give back to our community. Giveinstead.sg was founded by Shoken Tsurumaru, a student at United World College of South East Asia who is passionate about reimagining how generosity can be part of everyday life. Inspired by the idea that birthdays, weddings, and other milestones can be turned into opportunities to do good, he created Giveinstead.sg to make celebratory giving simple, transparent, and meaningful.
Shoken’s efforts have been recognised locally and internationally — he is a finalist of the President’s Volunteerism & Philanthropy Awards (PVPA) in Singapore and a recipient of the Icons of Change International Award 2025. These honours affirm his vision of nurturing a culture where giving becomes a natural expression of joy and solidarity, ensuring that personal celebrations can also create lasting impact for the community.
