Giveinstead.sg: Ukay’s 50th Birthday Fundraiser – Warming Hearts and Tummies at Shan You

To celebrate his 50th birthday, our generous donor Ukay chose to do something deeply meaningful: he raised $3,000 to sponsor 1,000 meals for seniors who rely on Shan You’s Community Meal Service

“As I celebrate my birthday this year, I wanted to do something impactful. These meals don’t just nourish, they bring people together. Many of the seniors who benefit would otherwise struggle to afford food or face the day alone.” — Ukay

He joined the seniors at Shan You’s Ubi Centre for a morning of warmth, connection, and movement. Around 80 seniors danced, stretched, and laughed through an hour of exercise led by volunteer instructors. The energy was contagious, from clapping and spinning to quiet smiles during the cooldown.

After the workout, everyone sat down to a comforting vegetarian lunch of rice topped with tofu, vegetables, and fragrant curry. The food disappeared quickly and conversations flowed freely.

Ukay’s donation will fund 1,000 of these nourishing meals. More than just food, they create space for friendship, routine, and dignity. Many seniors also stay on for Shan You’s activities—line dance, stretching, rummikub and bingo.

We’re grateful to Ukay and to every volunteer and participant who helped make this birthday one to remember; for him, and for many others. Giveinstead.sg and Shan You look forward to more collaborations that turn small acts of kindness into lasting impact
