A Heartwarming Celebration at Sunlove Home

As part of the Lions Club of Singapore Central’s 63rd Anniversary celebrations, Giveinstead.sg was honoured to collaborate with them in organising a very special lunch party for 500 residents and staff at Sunlove Home for the Intellectually Disabled at Buangkok View.

The residents were in high spirits as they tucked into their lunch—spaghetti, ice cream, chocolate cookies, Twisties, and packet drinks—a rare treat as they are usually on a strict dietary routine. It was heartening to see so many of them light up with happiness as they interacted with volunteers and enjoyed their lunch.

Sunlove Home provides long-term care and shelter to over 400 residents with intellectual disabilities, some of whom have lived there for decades. We learnt that one resident has been living at the Home for nearly 30 years, since the age of 18. Many of these residents have no known next-of-kin or have been estranged from their families who are unable to care for them. To witness him and others beaming with joy during the lunch reminded us of the importance of human connection and feeling kindness and care from the wider community – people from outside the home.

This event wasn’t just a treat for the residents—it was also a heartfelt thank-you to the dedicated staff and caregivers who work tirelessly, day in and day out, to support the residents with compassion and patience. Their quiet strength and devotion are the backbone of the home, and we were glad to honour them through this gathering.
We are also deeply grateful to the volunteers who gave their time and energy to help make the day such a success—from serving food to chatting with residents and simply being present. Your warmth and kindness are most appreciated!

At Giveinstead.sg, we help to turn celebrations into meaningful opportunities for giving. This lunch was a beautiful reminder that by sharing our joy with others, we not only create lasting memories, but also deepen the meaning of our own special occasions by spreading kindness, happiness, and a true sense of community.

Here’s to many more celebrations that bring light and love into the lives of those who need it most.
