MTFA x Giveinstead.sg Fundraiser for Wheelchair-Accessible Van

Mr. Salim is 69 years old. He has spent most of his life working hard to provide for his family, but today, he faces a battle he never expected—kidney failure. Three times a week, he undergoes life-sustaining dialysis, each session lasting four long hours. But his biggest struggle is not just the treatment itself—it’s getting there.
After suffering a stroke, Mr. Salim lost mobility and is now wheelchair-bound. He lives in a small rented flat with a flatmate, relying on community assistance for medication and daily needs. His only way to reach the dialysis center is through the MTFA Ihsan Kidney Care (IKC)’s transport programme. But his biggest worry if this service was not available is:
“Will I make it to my next dialysis session?”
For patients like Mr. Salim, missing just one dialysis session can have severe consequences—fluid buildup, high blood pressure, and dangerous toxin accumulation in the blood. Public transport is not a viable option for someone in his condition, and taxis are simply unaffordable on his limited income.
There are many patients like Mr. Salim who need urgent help to reach their dialysis centers safely and on time.
Your Support Can Provide Reliable Transportation
IKC provides affordable, high-quality dialysis treatments to underprivileged kidney patients, many of whom are wheelchair-bound and have difficulties accessing reliable transport to and from their dialysis sessions. The organisation currently operates only one van to serve all its patients.
IKC performs about 9,450 treatments for its 66 patients annually at its Norris Road Centre. As part of its expansion plans, IKC will be opening two new centres in Henderson and Yishun later this year. With these additional centres, IKC is expected to provide about 4,200 more monthly dialysis treatments for 330 more patients.
The prevalence of diabetes and hypertension contribute to this rising trend of kidney failure requiring dialysis. Dialysis supports those with advanced kidney disease and helps reduce symptoms and complications from kidney failure. Missing dialysis sessions could potentially be detrimental to their health. According to the Singapore Renal Registry, there are almost 9,000 dialysis patients in Singapore, with four new patients every day.
Giveinstead.sg is calling out to individuals, businesses, and the community to contribute to this life-saving cause. Donations will support the purchase of the wheelchair-accessible van, costing north of $150,000, to transport kidney patients safely, provide life-saving dialysis access for patients who struggle with mobility and help alleviate the stress and barriers faced by elderly and lower-income patients.
Why Your Donation Matters
Your generous donation will:
✔ Help us purchase one fully-equipped patient transport van
✔ Ensure reliable transportation for elderly and wheelchair-bound kidney patients
✔ Provide access to life-saving dialysis for those who cannot afford private transportation
Your donation will help ensure that kidney patients—like Mr Salim—can continue their treatments without the stress of unreliable transport.
Every dollar you contribute will directly impact the lives of vulnerable patients, helping them get the care they need, when they need it.
