CNY Celebration for Residents at THK Home for Disabled@Eunos
“I think they will be purple and pink,” a resident speculated, “I’m very sure they are red and yellow,” enthused another. The air was abuzz with excitement on the morning of Sunday 18 February as the 135 residents of THK Home for the Disabled@Eunos eagerly awaited the arrival of the Lion Dance Troupe, guessing what colours the lions would be. The cheering crescendoed as three magnificent orange lions emerged and kicked off the Chinese New Year celebration organised by Giveinstead.sg and Lions Club of Singapore Central.
Following the spectacular performance, the festivities continued with an arts and crafts session in which residents created lanterns with red packets and filled colouring sheets. The Home was filled with cheer as everyone got into the holiday spirit. Representatives from THK, Lions Club of Singapore Central, and Giveinstead.sg participated in the event, adding to the festive mood.
As the residents were finishing up with their lanterns and colouring sheets, Mr Peter Lee from Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society (THKMS), parent organisation of THK Home for the Disabled@Eunos, made a speech. We then presented the Home with a new karaoke set to replace their previous well-loved set that had broken down during the covid epidemic. Singing is one of the residents’ favourite activities, therefore the gift was received with great thrill and enthusiasm. A lively karaoke session followed, with residents spontaneously singing their favourite Chinese New Year songs.
The festivities continued with a traditional Lo Hei ceremony, symbolising good luck and good tidings for the year ahead. A delicious chicken rice lunch was served afterwards.
The meal was accompanied by the distribution of mandarin oranges, snacks and red packets filled with chocolate coins, adding a final touch of joy to the occasion.
As the celebration came to a close, all of the residents left the event beaming, sharing with us how much fun they had and asking us to come back again next year.
The event was a tremendous success, thanks to the dedication and support of our donors and volunteers. Your generosity has brought warmth and happiness to the residents of THK Home for Disabled @Eunos, reminding them that they are valued and cherished members of our community.
